Fisher, Stephen  
Stephen Thomas Fisher Born in San Pedro September 15, 1942, died May 6, 2016 in Bellflower. A graduate of San Pedro High School, class of 1960, attended Waldorf Lutheran College in Forest City, Iowa. Steve served in the United States Army in Germany. He worked for over thirty years for McDonald Douglas/Boeing. He was active in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Long Beach and St. Andrew's Episcopal in Thousand Oaks. He was a long time member of Toastmasters International, Nicotine Anonymous, and the Hearing Loss Association. He was an avid photographer, fisherman and bridge player. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Ruth Fisher of San Pedro and his wife Linda Dodge Fisher. He is survived by his brother, Scott (Farah) of Signal Hill and his sister, Jane Murphy (Kim) of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, his niece, Kristie Biglin, and nephews: Allen, Christopher and William Fisher and Jonathan Koury. A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 370 Junipero, Long Beach, CA on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2pm. Combs, Jackson Rudy (Jack)  
Jackson (Jack) Rudy Combs 1924 - 2016 Jack was born May 21, 1924 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to E.J. Combs and Ruth Rudy Combs. Graduated from Shawnee High School in 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He was a pilot in training for the impending Japanese invasion. He never lost his love of flying. He received an honorable discharge and earned the WWII Victory Ribbon Good Conduct Metal. He married Beverly June Harris on July 29th 1944. They were married for 64 years. He was a resident of Long Beach 61 years. He worked 37 years and retired from Edgington Oil Company in Long Beach. In his last years he rekindled his love of swing dancing and spent many days at the El Dorado Park Senior Center dances. He is survived by his sister, Sybil Marks; sons, Paul Anthony Combs and Jack Alan Combs; granddaughters, Michelle Combs and Caroline Gamst; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Combs, Savannah Reedy and Luke Gamst. Maciel, Mary  
Mary T. Maciel Mary T. Maciel passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the age of 83. She fought a long and courageous battle with Dementia, "Alzheimers type". Mary was born to the late Mike and Diolinda Maciel of Modesto, CA. She grew up on the family's dairy farm where she developed a strong work ethic and love of animals. She entered the Marine Corp in 1951, serving during the Korean War. She was quickly promoted to Sergeant, but left the military in 1955 to marry and start a family. The family settled down in Long Beach, CA. Mary worked as a travel agent in the 1980's and 90's, allowing her to fulfill her passion for travel. She traveled the entire U.S. and much of the world. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and two older brothers. She is survived by her son, Larry Jr. of Yucca, AZ; her daughter, Robin (Tom); and son, John (Vonda), both of Mustang, OK. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mary requested there be no funeral service and her ashes be scattered at sea. Stevens, Virginia D.  
Virginia D. Stevens Virginia D. Stevens passed away peacefully at her home on July 16 at the age of 92, and is now in the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ. Born on a farm in Mena, OK, on January 31, 1924, she came to California in 1944 and married Fred R. Stevens in 1945. Since Fred passed away in 1969, she has lived in various suburbs including Gardena, and for the last 30 years has resided in Bellflower. She also enjoyed visiting her condo in Palm Springs. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Janis Stevens, and her son, Benjamin Stevens; her grandchildren Andrew, Timothy and Jessica Stevens; and her sisters Delores and Carmelita. The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 28 at 11:00am at Whites Funeral Home, 9903 E. Flower St., Bellflower. Whites Funeral Homes (562) 867-2741

Schurz, Carl  
Carl Bradley Schurz Passed away on July 18, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Jan Schurz, his son, Eric Schurz; daughter, Sally Schurz; Daughter-in-Law, Sarah Schurz, Grandsons, Jake and Jagger Schurz; and Sister and Brother-in-Law, Cathy and Chuck Hawley. Carl was an avid skier, racquetball player, and bicyclist. He and Jan loved to travel and visited many countries. He had many friends and would do anything for his friends and family.
