Alice Hershey Wallace passed away peacefully on January 8, 2014, at the age of ninety-two. She was born in La Verne, CA to Merritt and Maude Hershey on January 26, 1921. She was the youngest in a family of eight children, who almost all lived into their 90's and have passed away in chronological order.
In 1938 she graduated from Bonita High School, where she was a competitive student and enjoyed participating in sports. She married Emmett Bradley Wallace on December 15, 1940. They had one daughter, Ruth Lorraine Powell of Redlands, and two sons, Roger Emmett (deceased 1973) and Timothy Ted of La Verne.
Alice and Emmett lived in La Verne until 1983, when they moved to Upland. Emmett passed away in 1996 and Alice continued to live in their Upland home through this July, 2013, when she moved into Mission Commons Assisted Living in Redlands.
She was a homemaker, an outstanding seamstress and enjoyed creating art and crafts in a variety of media. She loved the Lord Jesus and was devoted to her Christian faith. Alice attended the Pomona First Baptist Church and was an active member of the LIFT Class, for many years, as well as an enthusiastic participant and supporter of Martene Craig's ARISE programs. Also, she was a member of the National Bible Study Fellowship and the Associated Artists of the Inland Empire.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Ruth Lorraine Powell, and her husband, Wally; her son, Timothy Ted Wallace and Margo: as well as three grandchildren, Brad Wallace, Scott Powell and Tiffany Powell.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona, CA. Burial will be Monday, January 20th, 1:00 PM at La Verne Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Pomona First Baptist Church, for the Jeff C. Domond Foundation's Haiti Orphanage. This orphanage was very dear to Alice's heart and that of the LIFT Class.
