Arthur Nuñez, 87 years old, a lifetime resident of San Bernardino, was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed away peacefully on September 18, 2013. "Art" a third generation San Bernardino resident from the Nuñez/Muñoz family was born on March 25, 1926.
Art enlisted in the United States Army
and served in WWII
and the Korean conflict
and continued his work as a civilian at Norton Air Force Base. A sports enthusiast and baseball lover, Art was involved in organizing the Inland Empire Umpires Association and actively umpired baseball at all levels. He was inducted into the Inland Empire Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame in November 1990 for his community work and specifically his work in developing Little League in San Bernardino County. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 905, and served as the Grand Knight.
He is preceded in death by his parents Marshall and Nellie Nuñez and survived by his wife, Toshi, along with his three sons, David Nuñez (wife Ann Nuñez) of Riverside, CA, Allen Nunez (wife Dianna Nunez) of Encinitas, CA, Norman Nuñez (wife Pam Nuñez) of Highland, CA, six grand children, and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Lucy Duncan, Ophelia Holiday, Alice Broholm, Veronica Paul and brother, Ernest Nuñez.
A memorial will be held at Hermosa Gardens Cemetery Inland Memorial Mortuary Chapel (900 North Meridian Ave., Colton, CA) on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at the Riverside National Cemetery at 2:00 P.M.
