The Sweetman family is saddened to
announce the passing of its matriarch, Betty J. Sweetman. Betty was 84 years young at the time of her death on September 27, 2013 in West Covina. Born in Pasadena, California in1929, Betty was the only child of Ben and Pauline Turner. Betty lived in Pasadena and married Paul V. Sweetman in 1947. She and Paul raised their 3 sons in West Covina. Paul and Betty enjoyed traveling around the world together for many years until Paul's passing in 1985.

Betty is survived by her 3 sons Stephen, David and Jeffrey, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Betty was always the positive light in the Sweetman family hosting or attending the family events, holidays and important days with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They enjoyed their special time with her.

Betty worked for many years at San Marino High School serving as a library assistant. She was a proud member of Laureate Kappa Epsilon of Beta Sigma Phi where she was a past president and served in many chairmanships. This sorority honored her as Woman of the Year. Betty was a member of the Intercommunity Hospital Auxiliary, Covina Women's Club, Covina United Methodist Church and many other social groups. She could always be counted on to lend her culinary talents and opened her home and heart to many. Her positive and reassuring smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Memorial services for family and friends will be held at Covina United Methodist Church 437 W. San Bernardino Rd., Covina on October 16, 2013 at 11 am. Donations in her memory may be made to Covina United Methodist Church.
