DORIS A. "DODIE" DeGEYTER

Former Van Nuys, California resident, Doris A. "Dodie" DeGeyter died November 3 at the age of 86 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Dodie was born September 4, 1927 in Van Nuys, oldest child of Leland Glines King, Sr. & Eva Anna (Scheibe) King, and was the elder sister to Leland Glines King, Jr. ("Buster"). She was married to William Albert DeGeyter ("The Onion King") for 42 years and they lived their entire lives together in Van Nuys on their farm. After retirement from the Bank Of America, she managed the Veggie Stand on Sherman Way.

She loved working in her garden and sharing her home-grown vegetables with family and friends. She was well-known for her soft heart toward many of the farm cats. Two of her favorites (Tiger and Brownie) made the move with her to Broken Arrow. After Albert's death in 2005, Dodie moved to Broken Arrow in 2006, close to her step-son Felix and his wife, Patty. Her daughter Earlene joined her in Ok. in 2012. Dodie is survived by Earlene and her son, Josh, also Felix and Patty (of Broken Arrow, OK), along with his two children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Gene DeGeyter and his wife Alice (of Cottonwood, AZ), along with his daughter and grandchildren; George DeGeyter and his wife Anna (of Smartsville,CA), along with his three children, and grandchildren. She is also survived by niece, Joyce and nephew, Dave. Dodie is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Albert and her cat "Tiger," (whose ashes will be laid to rest with her), next to Albert in Chatsworth, CA.

Hayhurst Funeral Home of Broken Arrow, has coordinated services with Lorenzen Mortuary of Reseda, CA. Services were held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth, CA, at 1:00 p.m., with graveside service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the ASPCA (www.aspca.org or call 1-800-628-0028) or St. Francis Hospice of Tulsa, OK. at 6600 South Yale Ave., Suite 350, Tulsa, OK 74136.
