Hosea Brown, Jr.
Hosea Brown Jr. was born on September 21, 1930 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to his proud parents, Hosea Brown Sr., from Savannah, Georgia, and Marie Brown, from North Carolina. Under the loving guidance of his parents, he graduated with honors from Boy's High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. where he also won the Medal of Honor for high achievement in the mathematical discipline of algebra. Mr. Brown served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War
and was honorably discharged in 1953. He continued his scholastic pursuits and obtained a bachelor of arts degree in sociological studies from The City University of New York while also marrying Frances Geraldine Brown and raising their three children, Dennis, Denise, and Hosea III. Utilizing both his educational and interpersonal expertise, he served in the capacity as a parole officer for the New York State Department of Corrections. He eventually relocated his family to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. where he worshipped God mightly at Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jesse Voyd Bottoms. Mr. Brown moved to Carson, California in the late 1980's where he continued to serve the community during semi-retirement as a substitute teacher for LA Unified District, inspiring youth to strive for scholastic excellence, strong character development, and life/goal achievement. Moving forward with his faith and his passion for Jesus Christ, he served as a deacon at Ajalon Temple of Truth Baptist Church under Pastor Curtis Holmes. On the morning of December 11, 2013, he peacefully entered Heaven and "went up yonder", surrounded by his family at home. He is survived by his wife Geraldine, his children, Dennis, Denise, and Hosea III, his grandchildren, Dennis Jr., Antonio, Sequoya, Hosea IV, Crystal, and a multitude of loving great grandchildren, family, and friends too numerous to count. We will all truly miss this wonderfully loving, awesome man of God!
