Janie (Moore) Derderian
Peacefully passed away Oct 31, 2013, after battling lung cancer.
Janie was born in 1951 in Pittsburg, KS, to Nathan and Donaleen Moore. She grew up in Redlands. Janie loved people and was always the first one to lend a helping hand in any way she could. Janie loved life and everyone around her. Her joyful spirit created a multitude of friendships that have lasted a lifetime and more.
Janie graduated from Redlands High School in 1969 and attended San Bernardino Valley College. She moved to Santa Monica and later to Culver City. There she met and married her then husband, Mike Derderian, and they had two boys. Janie worked for Bank of America for 20 years and later was a partner in starting "Shampooches" mobile dog grooming in Los Osos, CA.
Beginning in 1996, Janie faced many health concerns and was unable to continue working. In 2009, she moved back to Redlands and applied for a guide dog through Guide Dogs of the Desert. Janie and her new yellow Labrador Retriever, Kiko, were a team. Kiko gave her confidence and independence. Janie and Kiko were Ambassadors for Guide Dogs of the Desert to help spread the word about the importance of guide dogs.
We will forever miss her joyful, positive and courageous spirit and especially her sense of humor. Janie loved camping, golf, motorcycles, and her forte was telling funny stories, especially around the campfire.
Janie is survived by her son Scott (Hannah) Derderian; son Brian (Meagan) Derderian; her grandchildren Rece, Sienna and Logan; father Nathan Moore, brother Jerry (Sue) Moore; sister Sue (Chuck) Gasperson.
A celebration of her life is planned on Sat., Nov. 16 at 3:30 pm at Redlands United Church of Christ, 168 Bellevue Ave, Redlands, CA. A reception will follow in Covenant Hall. Janie's special request: wear bright colors or Hawaiian (no black). No flowers, please. Consider donations to Guide Dogs of the Desert (guidedogsofthedesert.org
