Staff Sgt. Louis Lee Michaels passed away at his home in Long Beach on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the age of 92. Louis is survived by his loving wife Ann of 66 years. They were married in New York on April 12, 1947. Louis is lovingly remembered by his wife Ann Michaels (nee) DeMott of New York; Daughters, Mary Lizotte, Patricia Bender, Claire Vosburgh, Sarah Irons, Marjorie Schultz, Kathryn Thomas, Laura Vaughn, Carolyn Foust; Son James Michaels; and twenty-four grandchildren, and thirty-six great-grandchildren, and many other relatives whom he loved dearly. Louis was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1921. He started his young life in the California Conservation Corps. He was a veteran of World War II (Pacific Theater) enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1941 which eventually became the United States Air Force. He remained in military services for twenty-six years, though the Korean War, the Vietnam Conflict, and was an aircraft hurricane hunter. After retiring from the USAF in 1967, he worked for another twenty two years at McDonnell Douglas on commercial and military aircraft installing hydraulics systems. Louis enjoyed his family and had many interests that he shared with them, especially an appreciation of music, as well as movies, photography and of course spending time with his family. Private services will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital. Please sign the guestbook
