Martyn Barr Albright Jr.

Martyn Barr Albright, Jr. 1920 - 2009 Martyn Barr Albright's life was rich and full with experience, achievement and generosity. He passed away peacefully on April 4, 2009 at the VA hospital with his family by his side. Born in Long Beach to Martyn and Ruby Albright. Resident of Seal Beach for 46 years. He attended schools in Long Beach and graduated from Wilson High, completing his formal education at USC and UCLA. His grandfather, Joseph Shrewsbury was the first Fire Chief of Long Be ach. Commander Albright had a distinguished military career in the Navy spanning over 40 years. Serving as a Corsair fighter pilot aboard the USS Intrepid during WWII, Air Intelligence and Photo Reconnaissance Pilot on the USS Boxer in Korea and Naval Intelligence officer during Vietnam. He was presented with an air medal with 3 stars in the American theater, Asiatic-Pacific 3 stars and the D.F.C. Professionally he was employed for more than 30 years by the state of California, D.O.G. as a Petroleum Enginee r, Geologist. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Norma; four children; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Dedication to country, commitment to family, inspired by nature, respect for the sea, the comforts of home and a great appreciation for happy hour, were a few dimensions of his life. We salute him and shall pass on his legacy for our future generations. As per his wishes, he will be honored by country with a Naval burial at sea.
