Comboni Fr. Miguel A. Villegas, 70, passed away on Sunday, November 10 after a long and painful illness. He is survived by his mother, age 91, and six sisters.

After his ordination to the missionary priesthood in 1969, Fr. Miguel spent six years in his native Mexico as educator and magazine editor. Having learned Arabic, in 1978 he was assigned to teach at the Comboni College of Khartoum, Sudan. By 1984 we find him in the Los Angeles area as educator of young Hispanic mission aspirants and deeply involved in the youth pastoral plan of the Los Angeles Archdiocese. From 1997 to 2011 he was totally dedicated to the Comboni publications first in Mexico and then in Peru. In 2012 he was assigned to the community of Covina, CA where he soon became very well known for his infectious enthusiasm for the missionary cause and as editor, once more, of the Comboni magazine. Despite the growing amount of physical pain he endured, he worked at his task up until a week before his untimely death. Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Covina. Rosary and vigil at 7:00pm Friday evening Nov.15 and Funeral Mass Saturday, Nov.16 at 12:30pm followed by a reception. May he rest in Peace. Donations in his memory can be made to: Comboni Missionaries, 645 S. Aldenville Ave., Covina, CA 91723
