Norma Jean Byllesby

Norma Jean Byllesby Norma Jean Byllesby, age 85, of South Gate, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2011. Born January 11, 1926 in Ross County, Ohio, Norma moved to South Gate in 1959. She was dedicated to bettering her community and city government. She was a member and past president of South Gate Woman's Club, and a member of Republican Women's Club, Hollydale Friends of the Library, Whittier Area Genealogy Society and Lakewood Gardening Club. She was active at Downey Senior Center, served two years as treasurer for Downey Committee on Aging, and volunteered for four years with South Gate Police. She was a past member of South Gate Planning Commission and worked 12 years for the U.S. Postal Service. She is survived by children, Karen Monosco (Marty) of Oxnard, Gary Byllesby (Lucinda) of Arroyo Grande, Jamie Featherston (Richard) of Mary Esther, FL; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, Kermit, and a son, Kevin Scott, preceded her in death. She will also be missed by her longtime friend, Tage Welander of Downey. Memorial service is Friday, September 9, 2011, 11:00 a.m., Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary, 10229 Paramount Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local no-kill animal shelter or the Humane Society.
