Loving mother of daughters; Karen (Larry) Bullen and Diana (Norb) Geiss, Beverly (Frank) Fly, Judith (Clark) Varner and Rebecca (Dwayne) Mugiishi; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by husbands Lloyd Lohr (2006) and Larry Merrill (2012); daughter Deborah Merrill (1977).
Jean spent her early years in Colorado and lived in Ohio and California as an adult before moving to Venice, FL in 2011. She had a calling to work with children and did so as an elementary and preschool teacher, Girl Scout leader, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. During her career, she taught in San Bernardino, CA, Gahanna, OH and Hesperia, CA. Her more recent activities included volunteering as an AARP tax aide and serving as a Village on the Isle ambassador and worship service coordinator.
Jean cherished her family and time with them above all else. Also, she found great enjoyment in daily meetings with friends, homemaking and assisting others in need. Devoted to her family and friends, Jean showed others how to live their faith, leaving her mark on many through her kind deeds.
She passed peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the age of 82. A celebration of life/memorial service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Village on the Isle, Renaissance Room, 930 Tamiami Trail S, Venice, FL 34285.
A private committal service will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in her name to: Village on the Isle Memorial Fund (920 Tamiami Trail S., Venice, FL 34285); Tidewell Hospice (5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238); or Venice Presbyterian Church (111 Firenze Ave. E, Venice, FL 34285).
