Stellward Jack Stellway, age 89, died
peacefully Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Regency Park Astoria in
Pasadena. A funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale at the Little Church of the Flowers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 2.
Jack Stellway was born March 24, 1923 to John and Stella Stellway. He grew up in the Los Angeles area with his six siblings, Dolores, William, Mildred, Edgar, Dorothy and Paul. While attending Pasadena City College he met Ethel, his lifetime wife and companion for 61 years. Jack was a devoted husband and in Ethel's final years he was her devoted caregiver.
Jack and Ethel were long-standing members of Lake Avenue Congregational Church where Jack served as a greeter and usher and Ethel served as a Bible Study Fellowship leader, a Sunday school teacher and a prayer coordinator. Jack and Ethel were members of the Voyagers and Mariners Sunday school classes at Lake and Jack remained an active participant in the latter class until the final weeks of his life.
Jack was an electrical engineer by training. He received his first schooling in electricity in the "ship yards" of southern California while working on ships deployed for strategic operations in World War II. He worked for the City of Pasadena Light and Power Department for 35 years.
Jack is survived by his children: Richard, daughter-in-law Janet, Sheryl, David, daughter-in-law Debie, Darryl and Carryl-Anne, by his grandchildren, Kelley, Jacklyn, Colton, Logan, Jasmine, Keffrey and Kedrick and by his great-grandchildren: Ryan, Kimiko, Caylem and Emiko Mae.
