Carl Bruce Thomas
Carl Bruce Thomas was born on March 3, 1933 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Willard and Doris Thomas. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Essex and the USS Wasp. Carl attended New York University where he earned his Physical Therapy degree before heading out west to Long Beach, a city he fell in love with during his Navy travels. In Long Beach he met the love of his life, Mairela while working at St. Mary's Hospital. Carl and Mairela married on February 2, 1963 and had two children, Sandra and Richard. They were married for 45 years and loved to go to the theatre and travel and spend time with family. Carl was truly heartbroken after Mairela's death 4 years ago. Carl's family will remember him for his great sense of humor and his handsome good looks (he was often mistaken for Gene Kelly). He was a fantastic bowler, even scoring a 300 game and a big sports fan, holding season tickets for the Rams for years. He loved to watch horseracing and could often be seen riding his bike around the Los Altos, El Dorado area. He will most be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Carl is survived by daughter, Sandra (Tony) Martinho; son, Richard (April) Thomas; and five grandsons, Tony, Thomas and Trey Martinho and Jake and Justin Thomas. The family will be having a private burial at sea for Carl. Please sign the guest book at www.presstelegram.com/obits.
