Clarence N. (Harry) Harris

91, peacefully passed away in his home on April 17, 2013, surrounded by his immediate family. Harry was born in West Point, Virginia on February 9, 1922. He came from a large family and had 3 sisters and 5 brothers. He served his country as a Navy gunner on Liberty ships during World War II. He met the love of his life while stationed at Treasure Island near San Francisco. Harry and Lea were married on January 10, 1946, enjoyed 67 years of marriage, and raised two sons, Tom and Charles. Harry was very active with Tom's pony baseball league and Charles' high school band boosters. Harry was a life member of the VFW in LaVerne, California and later joined the VFW post in Indio. During his lifetime he enjoyed racing stock cars, and bowling. He belonged to a bowling league at Chaparelle Lanes in San Dimas for many years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of LaVerne. Harry was loved by everyone he met. He always had a story to tell, and had a great sense of humor. Several years ago when Lea asked him what to put in his obituary, he said, "Tell 'em I died." He was survived by his wife, Lea; his two sons and their wives, Tom and Linda Harris, and Charles and Cathy Harris; 3 brothers, Joe, Charles, and Gus; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona, is in charge of arrangements.
