Don was my boss for around 20 years but most of all my friend. I still think of him a lot.

The day is coming next month. A year will have passed without my grandpa Don and it is still hard to conceptualize that I have now grown, changed, made mistakes and successes without him. Of course my grandpa will never die because he resides in a comfy place in my heart but physical his body has passed. No longer is he able to pick up the phone or type another mass email to the family saying, "my family is my protection." In this upcoming month I believe it will be especially important to remember the qualities my grandpa possessed; courage, pride, generosity, love for all, and to incorporate these into our everyday lives. Whether you knew him back or maybe only got to spend a few moments with him before he passed, you know what an amazing person he was because it radiated from every bone in his body and to yours too. I love you and miss you more than words seem to try and describe. I'll be thinking of you.

So sorry to hear about Don.My father Mel Hohlman and Don were both members of Long Beach Elks Lodge #888 and were both in the 487th. Mel was in a B-17 and Don in a B-24. They had many spirited discussions about which plane won the war !!! May they both rest in peace. Two great guys. They don't make them like that anymore. Bill Hohlman (Long Beach CA.)

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Don Partain and my late father graduated from Gunnery School together and served with the 487th BG. We all have such fond memories of him. He has reunited with family members and several members of the 487th. God Bless you all. Sincerely,
Darlene Denbeck and Deb Denbeck
