Donald Leaman (Don) Blackstone Obituary
Donald (Don) Leaman Blackstone
Of San Bernardino passed away on March 18, 2013 at the age of 80 after a battle with liver cancer.
He was born to Frank (Pop) L. and Lillian Blackstone of San Bernardino on June 25, 1932.
His greatest pleasures were his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, though fish, boats, horses, and cars were great loves in his life too. He made sure his children learned to enjoy his interests also, taking them on excursions and teaching them everything he knew. He was a man who could go anywhere and make new friends, devoted friends who were kind. Anyone who ever spent time with him learned some special things about love. He enjoyed the little things in life, like a baby laughing, a dog licking his face, or one of his children climbing up his arms to be held by him after a day of work. His dogs were especially devoted to him and he to them. He felt there was nothing that couldn't be helped by a bowl of ice cream in the middle of the night, a fun game of poker with his kids, or a fishing trip. At the news of his decline, all 7 of his children and several grandchildren dropped everything and went to his bedside to make sure he knew they loved him and to stay with him to the end - living just what he taught them, to always remember the most important things in life.
Don is survived by his beloved sister, Shirley Anderson of Napa, California; former wife and mother of all his living children, Barbara Goss of Riverside; 7 children: Lucinda Blackstone of Riverside, Kenny Blackstone of San Bernardino, Stacy Blackstone of Riverside, David Blackstone of Riverside, Jimmy Blackstone of Riverside, Terri Jude of Escondido, and Shellie Blackstone of San Bernardino; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter Shari and wife Sharon (Cheri) Blackstone.
A service will be held on Friday, April 12th at 10:00am with a Rosary preceding at 9:00am at St. Adelaide Catholic church, 27457 E. Baseline, Highland, CA 92346. A reception will follow at the church.
