PERON, Eugene Francis
Eugene Francis Peron of South Pasadena passed away peacefully on August 11, 2013 after a recent illness. "Gene" (age 84) was born on November 6, 1928 in Los Angeles to George and Dorothy Peron. He attended Cathedral High School in Los Angeles and later graduated from Cal State Los Angeles with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
Gene met his best friend and soul mate Joanne Schweitz at John Muir College in 1948. They married in 1951 and then moved to their new home in South Pasadena. In 1950, Gene began a long and distinguished career with the Pasadena Police Department progressing from motorcycle patrol to Commander before his retirement in 1981. Over his 31 years, Gene served in numerous roles from undercover investigator to head of security at the annual Rose Parade and Rose Bowl games. He was also an active member of the Pistol Team, Police Officers Research Association of Calif (PORAC) and also taught vehicle code at Pasadena City College. During the 1984 LA Olympics, Gene oversaw security for all Rose Bowl events.
Gene lived a beautiful and rewarding life with Joanne nestled in their South Pasadena home where they were blessed with four children. They were extremely active at Holy Family Church including related activities such as Eucharistic Ministers, Marriage Encounter and church events. He regularly travelled to the mountains where he shared the joys of camping, fishing and boating with his family. Those who knew Gene couldn't help being instantly impressed by his sincerity, determination, quick wit and caring personality. His strong family, spiritual, and work ethics were equally contagious. His love, character and generosity will be sorely missed.
Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanne; his sister Susan Haase; and his four children Mike (Liz) Peron, Tim (Cathy) Peron, Kathy Peron Rinden and Kevin (Sandie) Peron, who have jointly blessed him with eight grandchildren and two great granddaughters. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the family's diligent caregivers: Remy, Edna, Gloria and Rita for their love, friendship and devoted service allowing him to continue enjoying a full and blessed life during his final years.
A viewing is being held on Tuesday, August 20th from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at Cabot & Sons Mortuary (27 Chestnut St, Pasadena 91103, 626-793-7159) then followed by a rosary at Holy Family Catholic Church (1501 Fremont Ave, South Pasadena 91030, 626-799-8908) at 7:00 pm.
