Harriet "Joan" Shuff
1924 - 2013
At age 88, Joan Shuff passed away on April 10, 2013. She is survived by her only daughter, Caroline Getz and her son-in-law, Gordon Getz. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Garrett Getz and Cortney Getz and her two great-grandsons, Zackory Getz and Jakeb Getz. Joan grew up in Long Beach and attended Poly High School where she met the love of her life, Morris Shuff. They were married 57 years. These years were filled with wonderful friends, adventuresome travel on many continents, gourmet cooking and dining and a close and loving family. These were priceless moments that were forever treasured. "A life well-lived is a lasting inspiration" is the phrase that fit this wonderful woman. Joan made a difference with her positive attitude, determination to see things through, teachings of theosophy for those who sought knowledge, background in history always shared with others in travel, her laugh and beautiful presence. In her fifties, she went back to college to complete a BA degree in history that she had always dreamed of attaining. When she lost her husband in 2001, she wrote a book to help widows, "Then there was one", showing her pragmatic side, independent business savvy and sense of humor. (Available at Amazon).
