Detective Jeremiah MacKay
A hero went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. Detective Jeremiah MacKay was killed in the line of duty while trying to protect his partners in a fierce gun battle in the Angelus Oaks Area. He leaves behind a father Alan, mother Dawn Marie, sister Angela Reynolds, wife Lynette, 6 year old step-daughter Kaitlyn, and 4 month old son Cayden.
A native to California, Jeremiah was born in San Bernardino on June, 4, 1977. Raised in Lake Arrowhead, Jeremiah graduated from Rim of the World High School in 1995. He loved skiing/snowboarding, playing football and tennis, but enjoyed spending time at the beach more than anywhere else.
On his 21st birthday, Jeremiah graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Academy with Class 131. He worked a host of assignments as a deputy sheriff: the Central Detention Center, Twin Peaks and Central Patrol stations. He was promoted to detective in 2006, and assigned to the Sheriff's Training Center. As a detective, Jeremiah worked Twin Peaks, Big Bear, and his most recent assignment was the Yucaipa Station. Jeremiah was a proud member of the Sheriff's Honor Guard, and played the bagpipes for countless ceremonies.
Jeremiah was a decorated veteran of the Sheriff's Department who was recognized five times by the California Highway Patrol, for his keen investigative skills in recovering a multitude of stolen vehicles. He was also recognized by the Sheriff's Department on three separate occasions in which he received Commander's Awards as a result of exceptional service throughout the course of his duties. Jeremiah MacKay was an active member of the Emerald Society and honored fallen heroes by playing the bagpipes at fallen officer dedication ceremonies. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten, and the citizens of this county will be forever grateful for his service.
