I went to Bob´s service at LBYC and remember him writing his own obituary and was prepared to eulogize and say some words but the service didn´t allow it.
It was a wonderful celebration of Bob´s life.
I was a less than average Wilson swimmer and water polo player of Bob´s graduating in 1974 in the shadow of great swimmers and polo players such as Tim Shaw, John McMullen and others. Bob also was my US History teacher my junior year. My senior year, after a personal best time in a dual meet, I got a call from coach Gruneisen apologizing for not acknowledging it at the meet and congratulating me on my time. It was a mediocre time, but he made me feel like a gold medalist. There was a place and life lesson on his team and in his classroom for anyone that tried.
I will never forget Bob Gruneisen.

From time to time, I think of Bob, and a smile comes to my face. He was an amazing mentor and valued colleague. The greatest gift that Bob gave to myself and so many others, was his time. Bob, you are truly missed, but your wonderful spirit and zest for life, lives on in so many others.

He made his class so fun and interesting - a great gift for his students. Thank you Mr Gruneison, for taking an interest in helping me succeed, Your work and dedication has an enduring impact on my life, and the lives of many others. Well done, Mr. Gruneison.

I was a foreign student coming from the Philippines in 1971 when i was enrolled as a sophomore at Woodrow Wilson High School. Coach Gruneisen was my swimming coach along with Paul Zack my water polo coach. My goal in coming to the US was to train for the 1972 Munich Olympics. Coach Gruneisen had a very strong swimming team and water polo team. I truly enjoyed Coach Gruneisens guidance. He was a very good man.
After Munich I returned to the Philippines to finish college. Several years later i came back to Long Beach and dropped in on Coach G. He was exactly at the same place where I left him 10 years before. And surprisingly after my weight gain and difference appearance he still recognized me from 30 feet away. I have very fond memories of my stay at Wilson and Coach G was the favorite memory.
I miss you Coach G. I wish I could have visited you again 10 years later.

Mr. Gruneisen, was a person who truly was interested in the students well being, and in helping them in anyway he could. He gave me many great tips on my swimming technique. He also allowed me to swim on the boys team. So I got to push my ability up to another level. I only wished I could have let him know how much I truly appreciated him. He was honest to the core, and he will be sorely missed. Thank You Mr. Gruneisen for making me feel so very special!

Mr. Gruneisen was my history teacher @ Wilson in my senior year. I graduated in 1989. Afterwards, I attended UC Riverside and UC Hastings College of the Law. I became an attorney. I think Mr. Gruneisen for his help, support, and encouragement. He was a great soul and great spirit.

Happy 85th birthday Bob! I remembered since your birthday was just 3 days after mine and I wonder if it ever landed on Mother's Day like mine has several times?
The summer is nearly here and Wilson seniors will be graduating soon. I retired two years ago and there are only a couple teachers still there from when you taught there, the last years right next door to me!
My daughter Lauren and her husband Jason and two children James and Blakesley have moved to Kauai and I visited this past Thanksgiving. I remember hearing the stories of your place at Hanalei Bay and next time maybe I can find it, if it's still there.
I still live in Long Beach and think of you and my other great friends from Wilson who are with you - Klaus, Arky, and Rick Jones. You must be having alot of laughs together like we did having lunch in the coaches room!
I miss you alot and recently ran into Matt and Brenden, who is still a lifeguard, but also substitute teaching at Wilson! His goal (and I know he will achieve this!) is to also be part of the aquatics/swim program there. Wouldn't that be appropriate? You of course would be proud that the circle you started at Wilson would be rounded.
All the best friend!

Bob was such a rich man......all you have to do is read the outpouring of love and respect you find in these comments. He was one of two teachers at Wilson that I admired and respected. As an adult, I even tipped a few with him. He was quite a guy.

There is much to be thankful for this Holiday Season. Over the past several weeks, I have thought of Coach G. many times. Post script to what I wrote nearly two years ago, my grandson continues to grow and excell in Water Polo. This year was a special season as his team went from one week to the next, winning each game they played. It all culminated last Saturday in La Jolla with a victorious finale as he and his team, the Point Loma High School Pointers, captured the CIF championship for the San Diego Section, Division 3. I seriously doubt that without Bob's influence in my life, which instilled a love for aquatics, that this would have ever happened for my grandson Kaynin. Four years ago while on a little vacation with several of my grandchildren, I observed my grandson swimming and noticed how smoothe he was in the water and particularly how strong and steady his kick was (which was my biggest weakness.) I immediately began encouraging him to get involved in water Polo and competative swimming, which he did. What a blessing it has been in his life as it has been in mine! He has been further blessed with great coaching as I was over the years I participated. Grateful this Thanksgiving especially for Bob Gruneisen and fellow coaches Paul Zack and Monte Nitzkowski who each had a part in engendering a love for aquatics that is now shared with my oldest grandson. Thanks again Coach!

I was in Mr. G's history class in 1970 or so. I was always rather chatty in school and apparently it wore rather thin with him as one day he told me I'd have to stay after school. When I showed up at his classroom after school he said, "come with me!" I followed him to the pool where he pointed to the bleachers and said, "sit there". He then proceeded to coach the water polo team while I sat impatiently. The pool area was kept really hot for the swimmers and after a while I caught his eye and waved him over and whined, "Gee, Mr G. It's really hot in here", thinking he'd let me leave, however, instead he looked at me and said (with a grin), "the heat is part of the punishment!" After that, I never disrupted his class again!! I'm 62 years old and still remember this incident all these many, many years later! I'm know he is much missed and was much respected!

I was working out in the pool for a knee injury I got doing gymnastics on the Wilson team. When I got to the end of the lane after a couple of hundreds, Mr. Gruneisen asked me why I didn't swim for Wilson. I told him I was a gymnast, his reply changed my life. "You are a much better swimmer than you are a gymnast." I started swimming again and I competed through college both in swimming and water polo. I am still teaching swimming today, 39 years later. Without trying Bob Gruneisen changed the outcome of my life. May he rest in peace and smiling for the contributions he made to so many lives.

I think of my brother everyday and his dedication to his family, students, friends and associates.
One of the things I remember most was that he was able to council his students and not send them to "the office".
I miss our conversations over lunch at Hof's regarding life, friends, sports and of course politics. Bob and our dad were the most important influences in my life and I will be eternally grateful.

I didn't have the blessing to know Mr Gruneison as a friend... But almost 50 years later he is the only teacher I have total recall of...whether it's history class, my failed attempt to be on the swim team, but most of all as my drivers ed behind the wheel instructor! I am an expert at parallel parking thanks to his patience...having suffered a major frustration melt down, he never let me give up...plus we learned to drive the freeway going all the way to Disneyland on one drive! I had some good and bad classes, times and days at Wilson....Bob has always been uppermost in my mind of those three years! Namaste! Lisa (scriven) Silvestri, class of '68...

Every year on this day in February our family remembers how incredibly blessed we are to have had Uncle Bob in our lives. He taught us so much by the way he lived, and by the way he died. During his last days and hours our home was filled with an abundance of love. We saw firsthand that a life lived in kindness, acceptance, commitment and friendship is a life well-lived. So many people came to hug Uncle Bob one last time and to honor their years of friendship with him. It was beautiful.
So, in honor of this great man, let's live our lives with a positive outlook, lots of kind words, a commitment to friendships and most of all, love.
We love and miss you Uncle Bob!

Today marks three years since our friend and teaching colleague passed and we still think of him often. As I walk the hallways at Wilson, I can still see him in his shorts, long white socks, backpack, and wonderful, warm smile. It's easy to also recall him riding his bike to Wilson, and sharing laughs with the other coaches in the locker room where he parked it. The pool deck and swim program are intact Bob, much credit to you and your years devoted to our aquatic program. And our history students miss your compassion and concern that you shared for years. I miss the gentleman friend that we all recall with honor.

The month of February brings to us at Wilson both the reminder of Bob's passing, and the birth of another loved teacher and Coach, Klaus Barth. Bob and Klaus coached Wilson swimmers and water polo players to countless lessons in life well beyond high school. Their relationship was born of both respect, friendship, and humor. We will always remember the times of them joking together either on the pool deck, or around school. Klaus loved to poke fun at Bob and one time convinced him that he could break wind on demand. Klaus loved this kind of humor and he and Jim Arquilla (Arky) once used a "F@rt Machine" that they used covertly to show Bob just how good Klaus was at it! We all had stomach aches from laughing so hard. We think of them both so often (and Arky too) and schwimmers here will never forget the love they had for one another!

It was my great fortune to be numbered with those who swam and played water polo in 1969-71, coached by Bob Gruneisen. Without possessing much natural ability or experience in either sport, Coach G. was able to encourage, inspire and motivate me to find a measure of success. Nothing of great acclaim but enough to learn many of life's great lessons both about teamwork and personal achievement. This was a man who was not only the consummate professional in class and on the pool deck, but was also a man comfortable surfing with his student athletes in front of fellow coach Paul Zack's house at Surfside. As a sixteen year old, I remember how impressed I was the first time I saw him paddle out to catch some waves with us. To me, that was the ultimate in "cool." I will always remember his ability to motivate me and stretch myself to improve swimming times from one swim meet to the next. I now have a grandson playing WP for Point Loma High School and Shores Club team. What a flood of memories that brings back. A number of years ago, when my family and I were living in Colorado, I had the opportunity to fly home and attend the CIF finals at Belmont Plaza. What a pleasant surprise it was to track down Coach G in the stands, who was kind enough to spend a few minutes visiting with me and my father-in-law (who played for Downey in the early '50s) I told him them how special he was to us all. Till we meet again, God bless you Coach! You made a huge difference in the world.

My twin brother and I came to know Bob in our freshman year 1990 at Wilson High. My brother and I had it pretty rough growing up as inner city youth, bounced from home to home. Bob inspired us both. Although we were not his biological children he sure did make us feel like we were and we wished it too! He took a couple broken kids and taught us to always do our best...to take every opportunity you get in life and make the best run you can so you will never have any regrets...I can honestly say that his mentorship, coaching, and teaching saved a lot of souls just like me. He was a blessing when all else was wrong...I looked forward to being pushed by him each day. Now that I am soon to retire from the Army, I can say I have used his shared knowledge and wisdom with Young and old Soldiers alike. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Sincerely,

I played water polo and swam for Bob at Wilson from 1964 though 1966. I dropped out during my senior year to surf. Coach didn't like that, but always treated me with respect. I 'grew up a lot during those years' and Coach was a great role model. Always encouraging, always teaching, and he had that great smile. We meet a lot of people in life, but most tend to fade over the years. Bob will be remembered by many as a great teacher, mentor, and friend. He'll always hold a special place in my life. Another 'set' is moving in Bob, and it's a beauty.

Mr. Gruneisen was one of my favorite teachers at Wilson High School. I had him for US History in 1978, during my junior year in High School. I loved the way he taught history. He did not give us dates and events and expect us to learn them through rope memorization.(Boring) He had a way of making the events come alive and usually shared fascinating stories pertaining to them. It made you feel
like you were there. This really helped to learn and remember events in
history. Mr. Gruneisen always encouraged his students to do their best and always was willing to listen,

As John M named him, he was Bob "Gra-Nice-Guy". As my swim coach, he motivated us to achieve beyond our expectations and showed me what hard work could deliver. I'll never forget back-talking him when I was a Sr, he was frothing angry and I ended up with my tail between my legs. Good on him for not letting a punk get away with anything. Of all the great teachers i had Bob stands alone...I will always remember my first day of high school at wilson...it's kind of a big thing... intimidating. It was 3rd period history. i take my seat and in walks this guy wearing those OP wide wale shorts, long legs even skinnier than mine an aloha shirt and rainbow sandals..what the...? there's a movie projector wheeled in. Next thing I know the very recent and very cool surf film "Salt Water Wine" is playing..what the...? Who is this guy? a teacher? not like any i've known..from that point on he had me. I WANTED to really LEARN from this man. Bob later in life became a summertime neighbor of mine in Hanalei. And i got to know the man. I hadn't seen Bob for a few years but when i heard of his passing it hit me hard. Very hard. I am almost 51 years old and very few, if any, men have I learned so much from or been so inspired by in such a short time as Mr. Gruneisen. He will be remembered.

Bob Gruneisen and my Class of 1963 began at Wilson the same year in 1961. Though I never had Bob as a teacher, I remember him always being friendly, making eye contact with students in the halls, always smiling and saying "hello". He, Joe Caesar and Russ Jordan were the "Three Dapper Dans": always well-dressed, professional, handsome, single, all drove classy cars and turned the heads of female students, faculty and staff whenever they passed.
I know my brother, Steve Nott, had Bob for history; from him and others, I know what a fine teacher he was, as well as the lasting influence he had on so many lives. He certainly lived life to the fullest and shared a wide variety of interests with his many friends and family. May you enjoy magnificent sunsets for all eternity, Bob.

Bob was a true friend to all who met him, were mentored by him, and to those who literally "grew up" with him in the 1960's. There was a wonderful group of unique folks who inhabited the Belmont Shore Peninsula from 1955 through 1970. Some still live there, or near there, and we still keep in contact. There was a magic to that group: close friends, great parties and ski trips, Catalina and Mexico adventures, and many strange personalities who gathered on the weekends to share outstandingly bazaar events. Bob was a true member of that Peninsula fraternity. What fun we had. After leaving Long Beach/Seal Beach in the early 1970's, we continued to return "home" for special events and, sadly, departure of many of those friends of early days. Bob never missed one of these gatherings, and was always interested in catching up on events happening in our lives. Bob was a wonderful friend and, as expressed in so many of these Guest Book entries, had a profound effect on the lives of those he taught, and those he played with. We hate these "goodbyes", which are happening more frequently in our lives as we age. And, this one hurts deeply. But what a sendoff you all gave Bob: nice job! We will miss him terribly, but know that he left behind a boatload of friends, a ton of fond memories, and a lifetime of laughs and special times. So, good sailing, good friend. Keep a seat at the table for us. Love you.

He walked into my life in late August of 72. At my front door in those short shorts and knobby knees. He introduced himself as the Boys swim coach for Wilson and he would like to talk to me about changing schools before my senior year and come to Wilson. I told him I had already talked to Coach Zack and I wasn't going to miss out on senior year at my old school. When he walked out the door two hours later I wasn't so sure. I told my Mom that Mr. G was extremely easy going and easy to talk to and I might like to be on his team. After a couple of days I made the call and told him I wanted to come swim and play water polo at Wilson. His coaching me in that one year made a larger impact on my life than any of my other much longer term coaches. I coach today as if trying to "Be like Bob",and he has been there for me every step of the way.
Class, humility, the ability to nurture(MB),and making swimming enjoyable, are the qualities in Bob that we all seem to appreciate most. What a Great Man. We will miss you.

I've lived and worked all over the world since then, but I always remembered Bob and my days at Wilson. Those were some of the best times of my life, a large part of which was due to Bob's fine example and guidance. My life was touched greatly by this wonderful teacher/man. He noticed what others missed or dismissed. As a teacher, he is one I've never forgotten & never will. I remain grateful to have known him & been in his class. It was an honor. I remember when his mother died, what he shared with us. He was eloquent and very heart centered in sharing with us:' don't take the ones you love for granted.'" (not a verbatim quote). I've read what Jen of Lakewood wrote about his service. As sorry as I am to have missed it, what she wrote paints a lovely portrait of the man I knew and loved.

I've always been proud to say that I swam for Bob Gruneisen while at Wilson High School. For those of you who were unable to attend the service, I want you to know how wonderful it was. There was an overflow crowd. The speakers were magnificent. Rich Foster made us laugh, smile and tear up with his comments about Bob as his mentor and coach. Frank Addleman made us roar with laughter about Bob's neatness and lack of mechanical skills. Bob's brother Chuck reminded us of why we all loved Bob. Brendan Gruneisen told us how great of an uncle Bob was. Matt Gruneisen elequently spoke about how Bob taught him how easy it is to be a good man. Bob's niece Brooke read a heart-wrenching entry in her diary. All in all it was a moving experience for all in attendance.

Mr. Gruneisen,
Although I have had no contact with you in many years, I feel a deep sadness and loss to all of us at your passing. You will never know the impact you had on my life. I was a little skinny kid who bobbed around in the pool like a cork and was probably the only student in Wilson history who played "C-Team" Water Polo for 3 straight years. But, true to your word, I was one of those people you could have cut from the team, but didn't. You cemented in me a sense of hard work, perseverance, a stick-to-it-never-give-up attitude. You had more patience for me than I had for myself, and taught me that anything worth having does not come easy. Those values and attitudes have carried me through my biggest challenges and successes throughout my life to this day. I know God has a special place for you, Bob because you gave so much to so many people. I am extremely privileged to have known you.

Bob,
As a student, you were always one of the cool teachers. You allowed me to try out for the swim team, and was honest to tell me that I would work my tail off for little reward. True to your word, you didn't cut me ..I cut myself. Years later, I became a Wilson History teacher, and always wanted to be half as cool as you. In your retirement, you would only Sub for certain teachers. I was truly honored you subbed mine. That made me feel as though I had truly made it to Varsity. I hope I can keep up the legacy you helped create.

Mr. Gruneisen was one of those teachers you never forget, even if you're almost 60 years old like I am! He was a great teacher and inspired me to pursue a history degree. The world needs more teachers and men like him.

I don't know anybody that didn't like Bob Gruneisen. If you can make it through all of the ups and downs of life, and the first thought people have of you is "what a great guy," then you've done alright. Great job, coach!
P.S. Sorry our team wasn't a bit more dedicated.

We first met Bob at one of the M.J Ross golf tournaments. It seemed like we had known him for years. We always enjoyed chatting with him. We reminisced on our mutual time in Long Beach and coaching for LBUSD, Bob at Wilson and Maury at Poly. We also talked about the great green fees at Long Beach Recreation Golf Course, rates that Bob enjoyed through his final weeks. We're sure he was happy with the starting times he had waiting for him at the Lord's championship course. Gloria and Maury Ross

Bob was such a gentelman in every since of the word. Never a angry comment, only encouragement and a wonderful smile. Anyone that knew him, felt that he was one of their best friends. Bob truely loved all his friends, and would go out of his way to help them in anyway possible. I was
coached by him in his first years that he coached water polo and swimming at Wilson High School in 1961 and 1962. I'll miss him tremendously. I just wish that everyone could have a Bob Gruneisen in their lives like I did.

After reading many of these messages all with a similar tone as mine i find Bob to be even more impressive with what he has done wth his life during his time here. He was the most inspirational person to so many of us both during the school years and for myself even into the years that followed. I was fortunate enough to see Bob on a number of visits back to California and will always cherish these visits. Bob is one of the amazing few people in this world who have time for everyone and the ability to impart his knowledge of lifes experience to each individual tailored to their needs.
For me he was a great motivator , always had your back in any situation and was able to nurture confidence in your abilities. Like with many others he was the penultimate mentor for me and i went to him for a number of discussions about my life journey even after high school. He would listen intently and always give his advice concisely even if it was the type of advice you might not want to hear he always made me feel he had my best interest in mind.
Bob you were one of lifes true treasures and my life is better for having been able to know you as a friend and coach, both in and out of the natatorium. Never forgotten and forever missed.....I will be there in spirit on your memorial celebration wish i could be there to share my love for you with all...

Bob and I were teaching colleagues at Wilson High School in the sixties. Not only was he a good coach but he was able to blend academics and athletics...like Al Johnson, Skip Rowland, Jack Elder and others And did he ever enjoy teaching U.S. History. He made the Civil war era meaningful to hundreds of students. His kind will be missed. Jack N.Hoar

Coach Gruniesen was a true class gentleman who was always very positive and supportive to all of us. I personally was not a star swimmer, but he treated me like I was just as important as any of the other great athletes on the team. He made a huge impression on me with his style, energy, and enjoyment of life- he is truly one of the very few people I would call a 'hero' to me.... Ken "Kenzo" Hamilton (Long Beach)

When I was pursuing my teaching credential in 1981, Bob was one of the teachers I was assigned to at Wilson for my student teaching. Bob turned over the class to me from day one and trusted me so much that he never "checked up" on me. It was a great experience. Bob had been one of my wife's teachers at Wilson and had been her brother's water polo coach. He was a great guy and was so much fun to just sit around a talk to.

Coach Gruneisen was a true inspiration for many. Of the swimmers and surfers who played for him. I became a teacher and coach primarily due to him. And although I wasn't too knowledgeable about running a swim team he was there at the first call to walk me through it. I surfed with him in Kauai and he was one of the stalwarts who supported us during the class of 76 reunions. RIP Coach

Mr. Gruneisen was my history teacher in 1963. A wonderful man and a wonderful teacher. Bob was more than a teacher, he was a friend. He had a very positve influence on me during my three years at Wilson. We would run into each other many, many times over the years at the golf course or in Belmont Shore. He always took time to talk and catch up. He will be missed, and he most definately had a wonderful life.

I met Bob when I was training with the US Women's Waterpolo team. He let me train with the Wilson boy's swim team to keep in shape. He always had such a great smile and a natural joy for life. It was contagious. He had that winkle in his eye... I never knew what that meant until I met Bob.

You were a great influence in my life, Mr. G. When I was in high school and at my lowest, you raised my head up with your direct honesty and your gracious generosity. When I felt like less than nothing, you treated me to a full day at a Long Beach day spa. I've never forgotten that. Thank you, God, for Mr. Gruniesen.

May the peace of our Lord be with you Bob! Thank you for being such a great influence on me during my three years on the Wilson Swim Team. You were always incredibly prepared and organized which really helped keep us in line. I never threw a kickboard in your presence (my ultimate sign of respect for a coach).

Mr. Gruneisen was my history teacher in 1970, I think, and he was great. One day in class he had us listen to "Nights in White Satin" by Moody Blues, I don't remember why, but he was his own person, a great teacher. He was original and too cool. I will always remember him.

Dear "Grundoon"
Over 55 years of knowing you. So sorry you did not ever do the Panama passage....but that is about the only thing you wanted in life that you didn't get.
Those wonderful early years in the Shore at the Beachcomber and the penninsula parties. And you were lucky enough to marry the girl of your dreams.
Too many of your pals passed on before you...but like you they led full lives.
Love the fact that you apparently wrote your own bio. Unique until the end.
Hope to see you in the great beyond.

Dear Bob,
Unfortunately, this is my last letter to you. You were my only male pen pal, and our correspondence over the last thirteen years sustained me through many a political travail. What will I do as I face the latest assorted nuts and chews of this current national election year campaign season?!
Good bye, my pal --- I know where you are.

Bob and I became friends in the 80s when we both taught driver's training. We had many interesting conversations together along with many hearty laughs. Bob and I both shared the love of being on and near the water. Later on in life we crossed paths many times over at Bixby Golf Course. I consider myself a lucky guy to be one of his many friends. He'll always be remembered in my heart. My love and sympathy goes out to his family.

Mr. Gruneisen was actually my drivers ed teacher. I learned to drive the San Diego freeway, something we weren't supposed to be doing, AND parallel park
during two of the most fun weeks with "Bob". Good memories still all these years later.

Bob loved the water! That was never so apparent when Ralph Joesting and I heard about a new south swell and cut polo practice to catch some waves. So we're in the lineup at River, and a guy paddles up behind us and says "Hi, boys." It was Bob. He'd heard about the surf and cancelled practice! Oops. Awkward for a moment until we saw the twinkle in his eye. We had a great session. I think it's not coincidental that my brother John and I drove Porsches for a while.
Thanks for all the memories, coach! Catch you on the next wave.

I had the great honor and privilege of being on Bob's swimming and water polo teams from 64 to 67 We hung out and surfed together after my high school days. He was such a positive person and gentle soul. Catch a big one for me on the other side.

A silhouette stood about 125 yards away hovering over a 5 foot putt on the Bixby Village practice green, in an instant I knew it was Mr. Gruneisen. Those knees were a give-away. If you played or swam for Bob you could pick them out of any line-up! But best of all I was able to introduce my daughters to one of the persons that changed my life the most! Bob had the ability to encourage as well as motivate me to get to my goals. In the 30 years after leaving Wilson, it always made me happy to see my old coach!

Bob, of all the mentors and friends I have known during the past sixty years of my existence, you have been by far the most positive influence in my life. Because of your kind heart and belief that every person deserves a chance to demonstrate their worth through hard work, you gave me a spot on the swim team when Coach Elder kicked me off the gymnastics team for alleged bad behavior (I know you took a lot of heat for that . . . again, thank you so very much.) Your skilled and knowledgeable instruction, not only in aquatics but also in human decency and compassion, enabled me to have a wonderful career working in and around a place that you and I love so dearly – the ocean. There is no doubt in my mind that God has a special place in heaven for men like you. May you rest in peace my wonderful, wonderful teacher.

I knew Bob as my waterpolo and swimming coach from 1966 - 1969. He was an excellent mentor and a true motivator for me and the team. Everyone on the team had a lot of respect for Bob. He was easy to talk to, very kind and always there to support you. The world would be a better place if there were more teachers/coaches like Bob Gruneisen.

I met Bob a few years ago when we were sometimes in the same foursome playing golf at Rec Park. I found him to be a really great guy and very friendly. I learned that he had been a teacher at Wilson High School and had taught History to one of my younger friends. We never got around to discussing our common interests such as being Porsche owners or times spent in Hawaii. I envied his handsome looks, slim build and eternal tan. A real gentleman that I regret not having the opportunity to know better.
