Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Kathleen Marie Thompson passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on January 17, 2014. She was born on February 1, 1927 to William and Edith Spooner in Paterson, NJ. Kathleen married Richard Shook on September 16, 1944. They had 3 children and were later divorced.
In 1972, Kay met the love of her life, J. Bruce Thompson. It was truly love at first sight. They were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1973. They were later sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple for time and all eternity. They shared a beautiful 40 years of marriage together as their love grew stronger and stronger with each passing year.
Kay lived life with a passion. She enjoyed playing golf and reading mysteries. Kay also loved to travel and she loved to shop for bargains. She and Bruce often entertained in their home. Kay loved animals and would often take in strays and nurse animals back to health.
Kay had an amazing memory and could readily recall the phone numbers and birthdays of all of the people she knew. She had a kind heart and always rooted for the underdog and enjoyed helping people in need.
Kay is survived by her loving husband Bruce and her children from a previous marriage: Rick (Jeannine) Shook, Lynne (Joe) Guthrie, and Mike (Jerri) Shook, and stepchildren Bill (Beth) Smith, Rick (Jane) Herbert, Scott (Gai) Herbert and Toi (Jeff) Redford. The family would like to thank Rebecca, Lily, Debbie and Elena from PIH hospice for the compassionate and loving care they gave to Kay.
A celebration of Kathleen's life will be held, by invitation, on February 15, 2014, the day after their 41st wedding anniversary.
