PAROULEK, Marjorie A.
Marjorie (Marjie) A. McLees was born on July 11, 1916 in Carthage, Missouri. She grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, University Park. She graduated from the University of Nebraska earning a teaching credential and loved horseback riding, quilting and music and she proudly worked for the Red Cross during the War. She played the piano and the organ in the Presbyterian Church in Lincoln where she met her sweetheart Ben while he was visiting from college. Ben was attending McCormick Seminary in Chicago and they exchanged love letters until June 7, 1939 when they were married at the 4th Presbyterian Church in Lincoln Nebraska. In 1941 Marjie and Ben traveled to Azusa, California to answer the call of being the minister of the Azusa First Presbyterian Church. Marjie jumped into the role of a minister's wife and gave of herself tirelessly to being in women's activities, Mariners, Schooners, Women's circles, P.E.O., Masonic/civic functions and being a mother. Stevan Charles Paroulek was born in little 1943 and passed away in 1944 at 10 months old. In 1945 Janice was born and in 1949 little Benny was born. Marjie loved her children and spent her day's sewing, helping with music recitals, substitute teaching, making cowboy costumes and shopping with Aunt Lydia. Her love of music and her wonderful talent of piano playing took her too many weddings, funerals, school functions and the Kitchen Clatters. Family vacations were legendary and included trips to Yosemite, Rock Creek Lake, the beach and San Gabriel Canyon. Ben and Marjie kept touch with their Czech roots and traveled to Europe as well as the Czech Presbyterian Church in Nebraska. She loved her family and they loved her dearly. She is survived by her daughter Janice (Phil) son Ben (Susie) granddaughters Julie (Michael), Sarah (Graham) and Michelle grandson Matthew (Shawna) great grandchildren Tyler, Roger and Baby Avery. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 10, 2012 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church of Azusa 639 N Soldano Avenue, Azusa, CA.
