Olaf Dieter Obituary
Olaf Dieter, beloved father to Ralph and daughter-in-law Lois, passed away on April 26, 2014 with his family at his side in Santa Rosa CA. He was born in Trinec, the Czech Republic on December 15, 1925. He moved to Frankfurt am Main, Germany at the age of 3, where he grew up. Olaf was of Jewish descent. As such, he was sent by the Nazis to a forced labor camp near the Buchenwald concentration camp. He was liberated in May 1945 by the American forces and immigrated to Santa Rosa in 1951 with his wife and son.

Olaf graduated from Santa Rosa Jr. College and was a resident of Upland in 2007 to 2010 and of Sonoma County for 44 years. Olaf retired from the Sonoma State Hospital after 35 years of service where he was the director of a ward for the developmentally disabled. In the last years of his service, he was transferred to an inspection unit for the CA Dept. of Health; where, at the direction of the CA State legislature, Olaf worked to ensure that state institutions for the developmentally disabled were in compliance with state standards.

Olaf found great joy in everyone he met. He was a member of the Upland Lions Club and past President of the Montgomery Village Lions Club in 1975 to 1976. He is survived by his son Ralph Olaf Dieter and daughter-in-law Lois of Upland, grand-children Lana Dieter of Costa Mesa and Paul Dieter of Fairfield. A Celebration of Life will be held in June in Santa Rosa. Family may be contacted at Ralph and Lois Sicking Dieter at 1305 Cloverbrook Lane, Upland CA 91784 or lpsicking@cs.com.
