Pat Irvine passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was a long time resident of Pasadena and graduated from Pasadena Junior College. After completing studies at
, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, she taught elementary school in San Gabriel. During World War II she resided on Balboa Island before moving back to Pasadena.
Always interested in writing, she became the Food Editor at the Pasadena Star News. She was the author of eight books, including THE PORT OF NO RETURN, and SING TO ME PAPA, as well as a number of short stories for children. She was a member of the Arroyo Writers' Group in Pasadena.
Pat was a world traveler and visited over one hundred countries. It was on a trip to the Soviet Union that she met her late husband, William A. Irvine. They enjoyed many wonderful travels together.
Pat is survived by her sister, Jeanne McCune Spaulding of Palo Alto; her niece Anne Spaulding Draeger (John) of Los Altos Hills; her three nephews Edward Spaulding (Anne) of The Woodlands, TX; Stuart Spaulding (Christie) of San Marcos; Scott Spaulding (Cindy) of Santa Barbara; and eight great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three stepdaughters: Anne Irvine Steinsapir of Malibu; Jane Irvine of Phoenix; and Martha Irvine of Portland, and five step grandchildren. According to her wishes, no services will be held.
