Robert A. Levinson

1939 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Robert Allan Levinson passed away peacefully on June 3, 2014 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ryder Levinson, his son David and his nieces Shari and Tammy.

Bob Levinson was a community leader in everything he did: secretary on the Executive Board and founding member of the Men's Club at his synagogue, Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center; past president of Congregation Sharei Torah; founding member on the board of Hypnotherapy Associates; past president of the Monrovia Jaycees and the Board of Governors of the Jewish Federation of the San Gabriel Valley. Bob was a doer.

Bob's first marriage resulted in one of his proudest moments, the birth of his son David. The next proudest moment was his graduation from college at age 43. In his mid 50's, when most are retiring, Bob got a Doctorate in Psychology with a specialization in Hypnosis.

Bob was a philatelist for over 50 years with a stamp collection covering the entire world. An intrepid world traveler, Bob would proudly say he had been to 53 countries and counting. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman after over 25 years service. As if that were not enough, he was trained as a clown and had performed once for Ringling Brothers. For many years, Bob served as the only Jewish official Santa Claus for the city of Monrovia.

Bob was a generous supporter of his synagogue and the Jewish Federation. He was a big hearted man whose presence will be missed.

Donations can be made to Pasadena Humane Society.

Funeral will be on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, 12:30PM.
