Robert James Rogers Sr.
Feb. 9, 1927-July 29, 2012
Robert passed away at his home on
Sunday, July 29 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Azusa, California and attended Citrus High School. At age 15 he began working odd jobs at Consolidated Rock in Azusa. When he was 17 he enlisted in the Navy, becoming a
veteran serving on the USS Columbia CL-56.
After returning home after service, a friend introduced him to a good-looking gal from Arcadia. He married Patricia Sockman on November 4, 1948; together, they celebrated life for over 63 years. They bought their first home in Duarte and had four children. In the early 1960's, they moved to Glendora where he spent the rest of his life.
Robert had returned to work atConsolidated Rock and retired after 45 years of employment as a machinist. In their "Golden Years", Bob and Pat spent their summers in the Mammoth Mountains, where they were campground hosts. Bob willingly provided tips and advice on fishing, bears, and pretty much anything else. Patsmiled, as though she usually agreed.
Robert is survived by his wife Patricia, sons Robert and William, daughters Kathleen Naramore and Pamela Ryborz, grandchildren Scott and Kevin Rogers, Jennifer Parker, Renee Jeleniowski, Holly Ryborz, Nathan and Natalie Rogers, Matthew and Jason Naramore, and great-grandchildren Shane and SierraJeleniowski and Logan Parker.
Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa; we love you dearly and will miss you terribly.
Family and friends are invited to attend a grave-site service on Monday, August 6 at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora. In lieu of flowers or other generosity, donations to the Inland Valley Humane Society would be appreciated.
