Sarah passed away peacefully on April 24th while listening to the song of her grandchildren and great-granddaughter's laughter playing outside her door. Sarah was born on July 6, 1940 in Wadena, Minnesota where she grew up on the farm with her brothers and sisters. She received her BS at Moorhead State College in Moorhead, Minnesota and later pursued and obtained her Master's from LaVerne College. Sarah began teaching in California after college at El Camino Elementary where she met and married a wonderful man. Sarah held many prestigious careers throughout her life including teaching at El Camino Elementary, working with the children at Casa Colina and supervising upcoming teachers at CSUSB. She was a prominent force in her community, volunteering and fundraising for groups including Kiwanis, Casa Colina, Little League, Grace Lutheran and YMCA. Sarah had the honor of serving as President of Upland Foothill Kiwanis for 2012-2013 and was looking forward to serving as the Lieutenant Governor in the upcoming year. Sarah had many hobbies and found great joy in spending time at the beach, deep sea fishing and walking hundreds of miles in marathons including completing the pilgrimage, Camino de Santiago, in Spain. Throughout her life Sarah touched many lives and will live on through the memories that she made with her family, friends and all those that she loved and loved her. Please join us at Grace Lutheran Church located at 2108 N. Euclid Ave. in Upland on Saturday, May 3rd at 2:30pm to honor Sarah's life and all that she accomplished. A memorial gathering will follow the services. Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent in Sarah's name to: Upland Foothill Kiwanis Foundation, PO Box 1955, Upland, CA 91786-1955.
