Yvonne Salcido Obituary
February 11, 1935 – March 12, 2014

Yvonne Salcido, a native of Santa Monica and a long-time resident of the San Fernando Valley, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on March 12, 2014 at the age of 79.

Incredibly beautiful and kind-hearted, Yvonne was simply cherished by her family, her friends and the community. Her five children considered her the most caring and giving person they've ever met. As children and teenagers, they could rely on her for anything, anytime. She spent many long hours cheering on hers sons' baseball teams and watching her daughters' drill team and cheerleading performances. She never missed any of her kids' activities over the years and they could count on her for unconditional support throughout their adulthood. Yvonne absolutely loved being a Grandma and Great-Grandma and played a significant role in their lives from the moment she held them for the first time as babies. Her enchiladas were legendary and enjoyed by everyone who came through her front door, year after year.

Yvonne Margaret Sena was born February 11, 1935 in Santa Monica, California, the youngest of three children brought into this world by Lawrence and Mercedes Sena. She grew up in a much simpler time, walking many blocks up 14th Street to Montana Avenue to see a movie with her brother and sister or hanging out at the Santa Monica Pier. Her lifelong pal recalls fond memories of going out dancing in Santa Monica in their 20s and cherishes their 60+ year friendship.

In 1961, she married Manuel Salcido who she had first met in junior high school and turned down his invitation to dance at an event in the ninth grade. More than 10 years later, they ran into each other on Third Street in Santa Monica and within a few short months, eloped in Mexico.

Yvonne was undeniably devoted and dedicated to her family her entire life. Motherhood was her most important job, yet she worked on and off through the years and was very proud of her secretarial position at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company in the 60s. In the late 80s, she started working for Taft High School in the nurse's and administrative offices and spent 13 years there. It wasn't until her retirement party that her family realized what an impact she had made on the students, the faculty, and all of her co-workers. Students who had passed through the main office and interacted with her, but had long since graduated, came to her party to honor her and thank her. It was a very special tribute. She was an amazing, strong and loving woman and everyone who crossed her 79 year path on this earth are better people for it.

Yvonne is survived by her husband, Manuel Salcido; her daughters, Juanita Minor, Yvonne Persico and Christy Nelson; her son, Ernie Salcido; her sons-in-law, David Minor, Christopher Persico and Barry Nelson; her daughter-in-law, Tritia Flanagan; her seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Janae, Jamie, Katie, Christopher, Emily and Carly; her two great-grandchildren, Steven and Jack; her sister, Maxine Rosas; and her brother, Gilbert Sena. She joins her son, Rick Salcido; and parents, Lawrence and Mercedes Sena; as Angels who will be in our hearts forever.

To honor and celebrate her life, a Rosary service will take place at St. John Eudes Church on Tuesday, March 18th, 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. John Eudes Church on Wednesday, March 19th, 10:00 a.m. followed by a burial service at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth. Floral arrangements may be made through Joan's Flower Shop (855) 562-6757. CRAWFORD MORTUARY
