Olive Boot Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2008.
Olive M. Boot Olive M. Boot was born on April 8, 1926 in Detroit, MI. She passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2008 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and cancer. Olive came from Detroit to Long Beach in 1952. She spent the next 30 years teaching P.E. and coaching in the Long Beach Unified School District. She started at Hughes Jr. High, then went to Poly, Millikan and retired from Jordan in 1982. Olive loved to travel in a RV, camp and fish during summer vacat ions. After retiring, she spent many summers in West Yellowstone camping and fishing. Many winters were spent at an RV resort in Arizona doing happy senior citizen things. Her camping club, the LOLOWS, provided activities around So. California. She traveled across the country 5 times, going as far northeast as Nova Scotia and as far southeast as the Keys. Olive met many wonderful people during her travels. Olive Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie Boot and her aunt, Elsie Ward. She is survived by her friend and companion for over 30 years, Donna Cukras. She will also be missed by her extended family and her many friends from teaching, RVing and wintering in Arizona. A special thanks to Haven Hospice for their care and support. Funeral arrangements were handled by Neptune Society. A celebration of Boot's life will be held in the near future.

Boot was unique. She was a jewel. A GEM like no other. She had a heart as big as all outdoors. How lucky we were to have been a part of her life, and how even luckier we were to have her been a part of ours. Boot had a zest for living that was contageous. The memory of her will be with me until I die.

Donna, I am so sorry for your loss...so many wonderful memories I have of the times that I got to share with the two of you. One of the things I loved about Boot was that adorable grin she would get as she quietly shared the latest very successful "conquest"-whether it was some new kitchen tool or incredible recipe which she would make for one of your parties. She was definitely the best checkerboard cake maker in all of Long Beach. I feel so blessed that Boot was a part of my life.

I am saddened with Olive's passing on. I fitted her with hearing aids in 2004, and have seen her on many ocassions with her most reliable companion Donna. Olive struck me as very intelligent with a tongue in cheek humor. She never stopped doing the things she wanted. I used to tell her, "They don't make 'em like you anymore."
