Robert Browning McKinney

Robert Browning McKinney went home to the Lord on Thursday, April 17, 2014. Bob was born December 7, 1931 in San Pedro to Wendell and Lorraine McKinney and spent his idyllic youth there. He was a proud graduate of San Pedro High School, summer class of 1949. He attended Harbor College when it first opened, Long Beach City College, and graduated from Long Beach State. He worked at Shell Chemical and then Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station as a statistician and computer programmer/systems administrator, retiring in January 1992. During the Korean War, Bob served in the Air Force Chaplain Corps in Kisarazu, Japan and Topeka, Kansas. Bob had many interests, talents, and hobbies: announcing/narrating, acting, photography, painting, leaded glass, wood working, piano and harmonica playing, and was the consummate DIYer and all-around handyman. For 60 years he was an active member of East Side Christian Church serving as Youth Leader, Elder, and Choir member. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Cindi, children, Elaine McKinney (Craig Edwards), Scott McKinney (Cathy), and Lori Crymes (Duane), 8 grandchildren, and 9 1/2 great-grandchildren. Viewing on Thursday, April 24 from 4:00 to 7:00 at Luyben Mortuary, 5161 Arbor Rd, Long Beach. Memorial service on Friday, April 25 at 4:00 at 7th Street Church, 668 Obispo Street, Long Beach.
