Jeanne Marie (Ackerman) Sexton
June 9, 1925 - June 15, 2014
Jeanne Marie (Ackerman) Sexton, the daughter of James L. Ackerman and Kathryn (Seifert) Ackerman, was born in Canton, Ohio, the eldest of Kathryn's four children. Jeanne resided in the Los Angeles are for most of her adult life. She was a Phi Beta Kappa speech and drama major, attending St. Mary of the Springs girls' college and Ohio State University and graduating from CSULB. Her passions included drama, film noir, geneology, gardening and reading (especially the classics). She taught elementary school and tutored students once her own children were grown.
Jeanne is survived by her 3 youngest children: Kathy (Bill Allen), Mark (Marlene) and Steven (Karen); 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Mary Benjamin (Bob), Penny Friedrichsen (Jim), Linda Ivan (Michael), Mike Ackerman (Michelle) and Tom Ackerman (Pat) and many nieces and nephews. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Arthur M. Sexton; her eldest child, David Arthur Sexton and her brother, James L. Ackerman, II.
Jeanne always maintained an optimistic spirit, even when faced with challenges. She was a model for aging with grace and dignity, an inspiration for all who knew her. She will forever be remembered for her determination, love, intellect, sense of humor and dedication to family and friends. She will be greatly missed, but her memory will remain in our hearts forever.
The Sexton family would especially like to thank the many dedicated and loving caretakers and medical personnel, especially Dr. John Millane, who blessed us with their help and allowed our mother to remain at home in her final years. Jeanne passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on June 15, 2014.
