James Albert Woods

James Albert Woods, 88 of Lakewod, CA passed away June 21, 2014. James was born November 10, 1925 in Long Beach, CA to Elmer and Ruth Woods.

Attending local schools, young Jim survived the 1933 earthquake and the hardships of the depression era to graduate from Poly High School. Having natural mechanical and engineering talents, he became involved in the local phenomenon of Hot Rodding prior to serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war, he competed in SCTA sanctioned racing on desert dry lakes as a member of the Roadrunners, making many lifelong friends.

On Sept. 8, 1944, Jim married the love of his life, Alma Lee Ross in Long Beach, CA. Here he made the transition from dry lake and circle track racer to husband, IBEW Electrician and father of two sons. Though hard work he honed his abilities to form his own small electrical construction company and secured his families future. Well done Dad.

He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years; sons, Ron (Teri) and Don; two grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa) and Annie (Kevin) Ziegler; two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Lincoln; close family-friend, Willie and many nieces and nephews.

He is greatly missed but lives on in our hearts and memories. Military services: Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 1:15 p.m., Riverside National Cemetery Staging Area #1. Please sign the guest book at Luyben Family Dilday-Mottel
