Douglas Alan Slater
Douglas Alan Slater passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 at his family home in Lakewood, Ca. with his brother by his side following a two year battle with cancer. Doug was proceeded in death by his mother, Margaret Gibbons and is survived by his father Gordon Slater, brother John Gibbons (Amy), nephew David Gibbons, niece Chelsea Gibbons and countless extended family members, close friends and work associates who loved him dearly. He attended St. Pancratius grade school, Pius X high school and graduated from Loyola Marymount, USC and California State University Dominguez with a degree in Physics and Masters in Electrical Engineering and Business. He worked in aerospace for over 30 years at TRW and Northrop Grumman. Doug was a devout Catholic and member of both St. Pancratius and St. Cyprian parishes.
Doug enjoyed numerous trips abroad with his father to Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. He was most proud of his accomplishments in the art of magic. Doug performed for the last several years at the famed Magic Castle and numerous other venues. Doug served, including being president, in several magician organizations.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30, August 7th at St. Cyprian, Long Beach with a reception following at Lakewood Country Club, 3101 Carson Street, Lakewood.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in memory of Douglas Alan Slater to the Bookworm Literacy Project at Loyola Marymount University.
