George G. Medak

Obituary Condolences

George G. Medak A longtime resident of San Pedro died on July 14, 2010 at the age of 95 after a brief illness surrounded by the warmth of family and loved ones. He is survived by his sons, George (Jeri) of Lake Arrowhead and Robert (Connie) of Osborne, Kansas; grandchildren, Amy Skenderian (Jay) of Coto de Caza and Mark Medak of Long Beach; and great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Courtney Goydos and Bradley and Ashley Skenderian, all of Coto de Caza. George was born on March 11, 1915 in Fairfax, WA and moved to Desne, Croatia at an early age. He came to San Pedro in 1935 where he met his wife, Elizabeth Jankovich Medak who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Wendy Medak Goydos. George worked as a commercial fisherman from Tacoma, WA to the ocean off of Peru and was widely known as a great skipper and navigator. When he tired of being away from family for long periods on the sea, he became a longshoreman until his retirement 30 years ago. After retiring, he became an expert at grafting trees that produce fabulous fruit. George was many things to many people: a loving son, grandson, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and all those whose lives he touched. Private burial services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
