Sherri L. Ruiz-Vela Obituary
Sherri L. Ruiz-Vela
December 3, 1954 - April 2, 2012
Sherri L. Ruiz-Vela (Whitmer) age 57 of Alta Loma, CA went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2012, while she was at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana with her family at her side. Sherri was born in Evansville, Indiana on December 3, 1954. Her family relocated to California and settled in Upland when Sherri was 1 year old. Sherri grew up in Upland and attended elementary school, high school and college in the local area. After marriage, Sherri and her husband settled in Alta Loma where they raised their family.
Sherri was a giving person with a tremendous love for the Lord and for people. She found great joy in the simple things of life, family, good friends, God's creatures and his creation that is found all around us. She was happiest when spending time with her family, friends and giving of herself to help someone in need. Sherri held various positions in the Inland Empire, Nurse's Aid (San Antonio Hospital), Office manager (Dr. Ross Biederman) and most recently worked in the Etiwanda School district for 18 years. Initially Sherri worked as a librarian at East Heritage Elementary School, where she developed highly creative themes and programs to encourage children to read. Sherri's last position with the Etiwanda School District was as an office clerk for Etiwanda Colony Elementary School where she provided support to both school staff and parents. Sherri loved the interaction with teachers, staff, students and parents. She always found ways to make someone's day just a little bit better. Sherri retired from the Etiwanda School District in 2010. Sherri was loved by many and will be profoundly missed.
Sherri is survived by her husband, Albert, of 39 years, daughters Renee (Tony) Macias of Rancho Cucamonga, Danielle and Rebecca Ruiz-Vela of Costa Mesa, grandchildren Madeline and Joshua Macias, mother Betty Whitmer of Upland and brother Rick (Marianne) Whitmer of Rancho Cucamonga.
Visitation/Viewing will be on Friday April 13th from 4 - 8 PM at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 North Gary Ave., Pomona. A service will be held on Saturday April 14th at 9 AM at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 North Gary Ave., Pomona. The burial will follow the service on Saturday April 14th at Bellevue memorial Park, 1240 West G Street, Ontario.
