TAKATA, Sylvia Joyce

Sylvia Joyce Takata, age 91, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Bendigo, Australia to the late James and Gladys Pearl Look You on July 19, 1921.
Sylvia was educated in Bendigo, Australia. She met the love of her life, Thomas Takata, in 1944 and they married on August, 8th of that year. They were together for 54 joyous years until his passing in 1998.
Friends, family and civic involvement were Sylvia's passions and delight. She was an active member in and chaired many committees in the City of Santa Fe Springs where she resided.
Sylvia's civic activities in Santa Fe Springs included The City Beautification Committee, The Heritage Arts Committee, Women's Club, Friends of the Library and the City's 50th Anniversary Planning Committee.
As an active mother, she was involved in PTA and Little League. In 1986, Sylvia and Tom were selected as Santa Fe Springs joint Residential Citizens of the Year. On February 8, 2013, Sylvia became the first person to be awarded Membership Emeritus status to the City Beautification Committee.
Family and friends will remember her for her sweet and caring disposition and her love for spending time with family members and traveling to Asia and Hawaii.
Sylvia will be missed by her three children, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous friends and loved ones.
Arrangements will be provided by Rose Hills, located at 3888 Workman Mill Rd., Whittier, CA 90601. Visitation is from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Rose Hills Visitation Building (Gate One). Funeral service will follow on Friday, March 8, 2013, commencing at 1:00 pm, at the Sky Rose Chapel in Rose Hills Cemetery.
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers or Koden, memorial contributions can be made, in the memory of Sylvia Takata, to the Santa Fe Springs Women's Club Scholarship Fund, PO Box 2301, Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670.
