Philip L. Mullendore
The Guest Book is expired.
Passed away unexpectedly at the age of 64 on August 8, 2013 in Lake Arrowhead, CA. Phil lived in Lake Arrowhead for over 40 years, where he raised his family, worked as a Deputy Sheriff, served on local boards and commissions (including the Board of Trustees of the Rim of the World School District), volunteered with numerous organizations (including the Sheriff Explorer program, the Arboretum, Boy Scout Troop 251, and the Historical Society) and was a member of the Lake Arrowhead Community Presbyterian Church. In addition to his assignment as a Deputy Sheriff for San Bernardino County, Phil served as chief of police for various campuses in the K-12 and community college environment. After retiring as Chief of Police from Pasadena City College in 2003, Phil remained active in the campus law enforcement community by participating as an expert with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in the development of the Campus Law Enforcement Course. As a recognized leader in campus safety, Chief Mullendore was often asked to provide consultation services on campus security matters for colleges and school districts throughout the nation.
Phil was born in Long Beach and grew up in the Imperial Valley. He graduated from Calipatria High School and earned his Associate Degree from Imperial Valley College where he played football. Phil went on to play football at Long Beach State University, where he earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. In 1995 Phil completed his Doctorate in Criminology.
In addition to law enforcement, Phil was passionate about spending time with his family in the mountains, around the dinner table, on railroading adventures and in his RV. Phil loved great food, the serenity of nature and all of his loving family and friends who served as an audience to his larger than life sense of humor. Phil will be greatly missed by Florence (his wife of 41 years), his daughter Jennifer, his son Philip Jr., his daughter-in-law Misty, his grandchildren Elizabeth and Philip III, his sister Phyllis and brother-in-law Robert Bedwell, his brother-in-laws Richard Bates and Harvey Bates and the countless friends and colleagues he leaves behind.
Phil spent his last day enjoying the beauty of nature, wonderful food, the love of his family and friends, a perfect mountain sunset, and the satisfaction of a life well lived.
