On November 7, 2013 our beloved Kathy Ann Blackwell Cooke went home to be with our Lord Jesus. Kathy was born April 30, 1956 to Don and Barbara Blackwell. Kathy was raised in Claremont and La Verne and graduated from Bonita High School in 1974.
In September of 1989 she married David Cooke and they made a beautiful home together in San Clemente. On July 4, 1990, her son Brandon was born. Kathy enjoyed being a stay at home mom more than anything, and took great pride and joy in home schooling her son. The Cookes have settled in Yucaipa for many years now, where Kathy has loved the changing seasons and apple pie from Oak Glenn.
As a family, the Cookes loved to travel. Some of their favorite places have been Mexico, Turtle Bay in Hawaii, the Sierras, and they even had a recent trip to the beautiful land of Ireland. Kathy's passions included writing poetry, cooking, walks with her dog Bailey and listening to her son play the drums.
Kathy fought stage 4 cancer for 2 years, but never allowed it to inhibit her lifestyle or change who she was as a person With the help of Oasis of Hope in Irvine, she was able to prove wrong her initial diagnosis of only having less than 4 months to live. Despite her diagnosis, she was able to still have adventures- such as a trip to Spain with her son, trips to the mountains and watching sunsets at the beach. Kathy truly enjoyed life's wonders and the joy that it brings.
Kathy is waiting in Heaven for her husband David, her son Brandon, her step-daughter Kenda Kern, her parents Don and Barbara Blackwell, her siblings Debra Sievers, Ron Blackwell, Lori Van Ginkel and lots of family who loved her dearly.
A family service will be held at Oak Park Cemetery, Claremont on Friday, November 15th at noon. If you would like Kathy's legacy to continue, donations can be made by contacting Brandon Cooke in supporting Oasis of Hope families who are facing financial crisis.
