Russell "Russ" Eugene Cogdill, died peacefully at his home in Sun City, AZ, on January 18, 2014, at the age of 94. He was born on December 16, 1919 in Conception, Missouri, the youngest child of Missie Farnan and Jesse Cogdill. He served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he settled in Long Beach, CA, and worked for Southern California Edison for over 30 years. Russ enjoyed 35 years in retirement, keeping busy with small projects, helping others, playing cards and socializing with friends, neighbors and family. He liked to relax with a glass of white wine while discussing politics and neighborhood activities. He is survived by his wife, Marian, sisters Dorothy Wheat and Sally Cogdill; sons Russ Jr. (Laguna Beach, CA) and Mark (Sunnyvale, CA); daughters Catherine Cogdill (Central Point, OR), Julie Flint (Long Beach,CA) and Heidi De Brincat (Huntington Beach, CA); 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a kind and generous man and will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach on Monday, January 27, at 11:00am.
