Spring Amendola, 60, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 22, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She enjoyed family, friends, and a strong devotion to faith. Spring was a retired educator from the Gadsden Independent School District at Mesquite Elementary School. She was very active within her church community serving in multiple capacities. Spring will always be remembered by her love of family and her love and care for others; she will be dearly missed by all. Spring was born on April 18, 1953 in Las Cruces, N.M. to Alfredo and Delfina Sanchez. Spring is survived by her husband Bill; and her daughters, Ariel, Valerie, and Rosie Amendola; her mother in law Elvia Amendola; her brothers Antonio (Sara) of El Paso, Texas, Alfredo (Estella) of Albuquerque, Felix of Stockton, Calif., and Mike (Pauline) and Silver of Las Cruces; sisters Angie (Patricio) Contreras of El Paso, Katie Whitman of Calabasas, Calif., Peggy Sanchez of Dallas, Texas, and Pauline Chavez (Eddie) of Las Cruces as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Spring is preceded in death by her mother and father, Delfina and Alfredo, and her beloved stepfather, Hezekiah "Smokey" Johnson; her brother, Salvador Sanchez and her sister, Victoria Donatelli. Serving as pallbearers will be Tony, Jr., Mike, Felix and Steven Sanchez, Javier Chavez and Adam Donatelli. In lieu of flowers, Spring has requested that canned food donations be made to La Bodega Food Pantry at St. Albert the Great Newman Center. A prayer vigil for Spring will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 7 p.m. at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, June 27 at the St. Albert the Great (Newman Center), 2615 S. Solano Drive, to begin at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at San Albino Cemetery in Mesilla, N.M.
