Mary Tellez Chavez, 76, of Las Cruces, N.M., passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at her home. Mary was born to Albino Tellez and Louisa Barela Tellez on July 6, 1936 in Hatch, N.M. Mary finished her education in the 6th grade, but never stopped learning. Mary was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Mary was a very strong and devoted person. Mary was married to Lupe O. Chavez for 56 years together they raised 16 children. She loved to take care of her loved ones by cooking, baking, gardening and just having her family around. She is survived by her children, Mary Lou Hilderbrandt (David), Sammy Chavez, Lupita Ewing (Mark), Jenny Escalante (Gilbert), Martha Clemons (Bill), Betty Chavez, Freddy Chavez, Esther Adams, Rudy Chavez (Laura), Alice Cluff (Scott), Debbie Meisner (David), Peter Chavez, Manny Chavez, Bobby Chavez. Her sisters; Angie, Corina, Pauline and Albina; her brothers; Cruz, Jose, both deceased, Augustine, Jesus and Ramon; her grandchildren, Marisa Hildebrandt, Bobby and Orlando Chavez, Michelle Culberson, Brandi Ver Ploegh, Vince and Vanessa Escalante, Crystal Saldek, Tanya Thronburg, Tina Clemons, Cassandra and Cevastian Maestas, Cheyanne Enriquez, Rebecca Najera, Magdaline Miller, Marlaina Chavez, Joshua Powels, Stephanie Olver, Steve, Eric and Michael Chavez, Elizabeth Henderson, Elijah Cluff, Drew and Amanda Meisner, Regina, Jason, Jacob, Leann and Jimmy Jr. Chavez; her great grandchildren, Bobby Jr., Gabi, Steven, Ryan Christopher, Lucas, Shawn, Madison, Charlie, Micah, Brodi, Gavin, Ivan, Alyssa, Alex, Asia, Star, Savannah, Little John, Jasmine, Natalia, and Kassandra. She was preceded in death by; Her husband Lupe O. Chavez, son Jimmy Chavez, and daughter Bertha Chavez. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 from 6 - 7 p.m. at La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home, with a rosary to begin at 7 p.m., funeral service Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Joseph's. Pallbearers will be Vanessa Y. Escalante, Brandi Ver Ploegh, Rebecca Najera, Sandra Maestas, Marlaina Chavez and Cheyanne Enriquez. Services have been entrusted to La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home. Mom, thank you for teaching your stubborn daughter how to pass down traditions. This weekend the kids and I will be baking biscochos and tamales next weekend. I know they won´t taste as good as yours, missing that special ingredient that makes them special. Missing you always. Love Debbie

Gram, I miiss you so much. I hope you had a great Christmas being reunited with Grampa Lupe and the rest of the family that is already in heaven. I didn't get to say goodbye, and I think you wanted it that way because its not goodbye but more like a see you later. I love you so much!
