Arlend Beelmann

Arlend Beelmann, beloved husband, father and grandfather, was born to Otto and Agnes Beelmann on September 14, 1928 in Rock County, Minn. and passed away in Las Cruces, NM on October 13, 2013. Arlend grew up on a farm near Luverne, Minn., and his family moved to the town of Luverne at the age of 14. After graduating high school, Arlend enlisted in the United Stares Army during the World War II era and was sent to Korea during the occupation as a military policeman. After his service, Arlend attended the University of Minnesota. While in Minneapolis, he met and married Dolores Buetow. Arlend also majored in Traffic Management at Humboldt Business College and started his career at Northern Pacific Railway as an office boy in the main office in St. Paul, MN. He was transferred to Buffalo, NY then to the Minneapolis sales office, Grand Forks, ND and finally Bismarck, ND where he retired from Burlington Northern (now BNSF) as Area Sales Manager in 1983. Arlend always had a passion for trains and travelling. He and Dolores were full-time RV'ers for five years when they discovered Trails West in Las Cruces, NM which has been their home for the past 17 years. Arlend and Dolores have enjoyed many cruises and have travelled all over the world together. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. In October 2012, Arlend proudly visited Washington D.C as part of the Honor Flight of Southern New Mexico. Arlend will be missed by his loving wife Dolores, four sons Tom of Seattle, Wash., Paul and wife Sandy of Bend, Ore., Dan and wife Dee of Bismarck, ND, and Jeff of Anchorage, AK; two grandchildren, Steven and Jadee, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Arlend was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mildred and brother Kenneth. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 in the Basilica of San Albino, 2290 Calle de Principal in Mesilla with Reverend Richard Catanach officiating. Military honors will be accorded by a New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment. Inurnment of Cremains will be held at a later date in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND.
