Carroll Archie "Coach" Tuton, 84, of Las Cruces passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at his home. He was born to Archie and Fay Tuton on Jan. 11, 1930, in Las Cruces. He attended Socorro High School, where he was a member of the 1948 Warriors State Championship football team his junior year. He moved to Carlsbad, N.M., in 1951, where he met his wife Johny Wise. They were married 60 years before her passing, Aug. 13, 2011. Carroll received his bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education from New Mexico State University. He taught physical education at Conlee Elementary, Alameda Junior High, Sierra Middle School and Vista Middle School. Carroll enjoyed coaching at Alameda Junior High and led his teams to many undefeated seasons. He retired from teaching in 1992. He is survived by his four children, Nickie Doyle, Carroll J. Tuton, David K. Tuton, and Dante Tuton. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Carroll was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Visitation will be on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home Chapel from 9 to 11 a.m., with a rosary to begin at 11:30 a.m. by Father Don. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery with pallbearers A.J. Tuton, David H. Tuton, Joseph Tuton, George Thacker, Adrian Apodaca, and David K. Tuton. Services are entrusted to La Paz-Grahams Funeral Home.
