After his second "retirement" at age 75, he spent 10 years as a volunteer for Mesilla Valley Hospice where he continued to share his passion for teaching and caring about others. He touched many people and made many friends in this capacity. He was a wonderful and loving father to his two sons, David and Daniel, and daughter, Cheryl. He was also loved his two grandchildren, Brandon and Brian Beatson. A kind and gentle person, he spent most of his life in giving back to others. From a loyal sailor during World War II, to a dedicated teacher, a devoted father and husband, and a hospice volunteer, he touched many people with his kindness. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth Urquhart Beatson; brother Ian, who was killed in France in World War II; and four sisters, Elizabeth (Craig) Beatson, Anne "Bunty" (Schuller) Beatson, Nellie (Smith) Beatson, and Marge (Schies) Beatson.
