Dolores Fleming Meier Ph.D

Dolores Marie Fleming was born in Saint Marys, Pa., on April 5, 1950, to Thomas George Fleming and Esther Viola Bilodeau. Dodie's sister, her beloved husband, her parents and brother all preceded her in death. Two brothers and a sister survive her. Dodie was baptized Catholic by her Godfather, Donald William Fleming, who loved and supported her throughout an extraordinary life and career. Dodie grew up in St. Marys alongside her best friend, Marijo "Auntie" Burden. As next-door neighbors, Marijo, 3, and Dodie, 4, spent much time together in their childhood and they eventually married brothers. Dolores Marie married Thomas Frank Meier, D.O., on June 10, 1972, at the Sacred Heart Church in Saint Marys, Pa. They had two children, Julia Marie and Joseph Thomas Meier. Julia married and had two beautiful daughters, Olivia Marie and Hannah Sue, whom Dodie loved dearly. Prior to achieving tenure as an assistant professor with Troy University, Dr. Meier received her bachelor of science in education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania (1972), a master of arts in counseling and educational psychology from New Mexico State University (1987), and doctorate in counseling and educational psychology from New Mexico State University (1993). She was well-published, having a profound effect in many areas, including child and grief counseling, school psychology, geriatric therapy, and collegiate instruction. Her work included being on the board for the Alzheimer's Association, and serving as a faculty senator for Troy University. Dr. Meier's dedicated integrity, compassion and diligence throughout her career were said to be a remarkable accomplishment. Dolores Fleming Meier, Ph.D., died on Jan. 28, 2014, in the loving arms of her son just outside of Las Cruces in Doña Ana, N.M. The gentleness and compassion Joey provided for his mother is a reminder of his father's love and compassion for human life and loving care.
