James A. Fraser, 73, of Hurley, N.M., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Silver City Care Center. A funeral service will be held at Bright Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery. James Fraser is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Bailey Fraser, one daughter Abbey Townsend (Shane) of Silver City, one son Robert Fraser (Francis) of Hurley, six grandchildren, Tucker Fraser, Keith Townsend, Cody Barnes, Drew Fraser, Kyle and Crista Waldrop, and one great-grandson Emmett Barnes. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Fraser, two daughters Rebecca Ann and Mary Alice. James was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Santa Rita, he was a "Born in Space Child." He was a lifelong Hurley resident. He graduated from Cobre Consolidated Schools and married his high school sweet heart while attending NMSU and WNMU in 1961. He worked as a journeyman boilermaker for Kennecott, Phelps Dodge and retired in 1998. James liked to go fishing, water skiing and teasing his family members. He enjoyed welding sculptures, spending time with his grandchildren and his cats, he spent hours with the horses and the goose. James was also a 4-H leader for 14 years and a member of Hurley Community Church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him. Pallbearers are Shane Townsend, Robert Fraser, Tucker Fraser, Robert Bailey, Keith Townsend and Jessie Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Gee, Fred Balky, Anthony Bailey, Jay Jackson and Charles Drake.
