John Robert Cruz, 61, a resident of Silver City, N.M. entered eternal rest Friday, April 19, 2013 at his residence. He was born Nov. 14, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas to Adolph and Armidia (Garcia) Cruz. He proudly served his country when he joined the U.S. Army
and served in the Vietnam era. He is survived by his mother, Armida Cruz of Silver City; three grandchildren, Justin, Ashley and Lorena; one great-grandchild, Alyiah Rae; one brother, Edward Cruz of Huntsville, Ala.; three sisters, Virginia Cruz of Silver City; Marina Torres of Salt Lake City, Utah; Roberta Martinez of Las Cruces; cousins, Geraldine McLaughlin, Gilbert Martinez, Joseph Martinez and Jason Quintana; step-children, Paul Maestas and Angelique Chavez; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Joseph Adolph Cruz. A memorial service will be celebrated Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Father Anthony Basso officiating. Concluding service inurnment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Quintana, Eric Torres, Isiah Torres, Gabriel "Snuffy" Ortega, Robert Huerta and Joseph Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Ortega and Robert "Cochise" Martinez. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.
