Lucy Ann Montes-Sandoval, 53, or "Luc" as she was affectionately called, passed away peacefully at 10:22 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, at University Medical Center in El Paso. Lucy was born and raised in Ruidoso, N.M. but later moved to Las Cruces, N.M. to pursue her education as a nurse. Lucy worked diligently to obtain her LPN, RN, CNS and finally a Ph.D in Counseling Psychology. Thirty-one years ago, she met and later married the love of her life, Julio Sandoval, 53, and built a very close and loving family with him in Las Cruces. For many years, Lucy devoted much of her free time to raising her three children Andrea, 25, Julian, 22, and Serena, 20, alongside their father Julio. More recently, she enjoyed looking forward to her husband's approaching retirement and sharing her pride in the educational accomplishments of her children. Lucy worked all her life as a caretaker and healer of various forms, touching the lives of many in the community through her gentle heart. Lucy was a strong-willed, just and compassionate soul. She is survived by her loving husband; her three children; Her siblings Monroy Montes, Patricia Rue, Johnny Montes and Cathy Molina. She was also survived by many adoring nieces, nephews and cousins. Services for Mrs. Montes-Sandoval will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1 at La Paz-Graham's funeral home in Las Cruces. Following the services, she will then be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery. Lucy spent several years caring for hospice patients and the family intends to donate any flowers/arrangements to Mesilla Valley Hospice.
