It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Robert "Bobby" G. Madrid, 70, of Las Cruces on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at Casa De Oro Care Center. He was born March 24, 1942 in Las Cruces to Roberto C. and Sunamita Garcia Madrid. "Bobby," as he was fondly known to his family and friends, served his country honorably in the U.S. Army
and was a member of the VFW
Post #3242. He retired as a custodian from the Las Cruces Public Schools and was a member of the Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include daughter, Josie Sheldon and husband Rodney of Las Cruces; son, Matthew Madrid of Palo Alto, Calif.; brother, Daniel G. Madrid and wife Gloria of Doña Ana; two sisters, Perla Brinson and husband Don of Macon, Ga., and Virginia Barela and husband Ruben of Doña Ana. Other survivors include two grandchildren, Paul Madrid and Tabitha Sheldon; two great grandchildren, Matthew A. Reyes and Brandon D. Allison as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Victor G. Madrid and a nephew, Danny Barela. Visitation for Bobby will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the prayer vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral mass at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 in Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church, 5525 Cristo Rey in Doña Ana with Rev. Miguel Macaya officiating. Military honors will be accorded by a Fort Bliss Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment. Cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date. Serving as casket bearers will be Daniel Madrid Jr., Ruben Barela, Jr., Victor Lee Madrid, Rodney Sheldon, Matthew Madrid and Paul Madrid. Honorary bearers will be Ruben Barela Sr., Edgar Rodriguez, Jaime Hernandez, Albert Holguin Jr., Jesse De La O and Daniel Madrid Sr.
